Pre Meal Restaurant Meeting or Post Blues Weekly Recap
I am surprised when I speak to restaurant managers and multi unit managers and find out that they are not following up to ensure a Pre-Meal Meeting is being completed with the restaurant staff. In essence, when we really dissect what a pre-meal meeting is, it is not anything more than communication and alignment towards shift goals.
Far too often, we allow every excuse in the book when it comes to non-completion of a Pre-Meal. This is the opportunity to gather your restaurant employees and set goals / expectations with them. If your team does not know what is expected of them, how on earth do we expect them to provide an amazing guest experience? If we do not provide our teams with direction, I guarantee you, they will assume that there is not any and make their own decisions and best guesses towards decisions and execution. I can also assure you that you will struggle to achieve the objectives and goals that you are looking to accomplish.
Most restaurants have a core employee base whom wants to do a great job, they are just waiting for direction. You should be connecting your monthly goals to shift by shift pre meal meetings and creating energy & excitement around execution of these goals. Imagine in any industry if the majority of employees were not communicated to about goals and targets. How would this particular industry perform?
If you do not set goals, your employees will assume there are not any!
If you want to take your restaurant to the next level with any result – Guest experience, sales, food cost, suggestive selling, cleanliness, etc., then you need to ensure your team is aligned and helping you work towards these goals. Get them together before peak volume and review what is you want accomplished and involve them as to how to achieve the target at hand. Your team wants you to be successful, give them the information they need to do so.
If you do not complete Pre-Meal Meetings with your team, I can assure you, you will be singing the post blues to your superior when reviewing your results for the week. Getting the entire team involved will lead to both your and their success. Don’t spend another week wondering how you missed targets, take control of your destiny and success today, communicate expectations and follow up with shift by shift results.
You do not need anything fancy to conduct a pre shift meeting
You do not need a fancy template or form, all you need is something to keep yourself organized to cover the goals and objectives you are looking to accomplish. Below is a very simple template and we will update our resource page in the future for a download for each of you.
Good luck out there and give Pre Meal meetings a try this week. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
